Vikram Sahgal, Additional Director for Fortis At a meeting, the Board of Directors of Fortis Financial Services Ltd has appointmed Vikram Sahgal as an Additional Director, in the capacity of "Independent Director" with immediate effect.

C Mohan IBM India's new Chief Scientist
IBM has announced the appointment of IBM Fellow, Dr C Mohan as the Chief Scientist for IBM India. In this new role, Dr Mohan will be responsible for development and leadership of IBM's technical community in India. He will help leverage IBM's technical strengths to build synergies with key stakeholders, give impetus to client engagements, and develop first-of-its kind projects in India. He will also be a key representative of IBM India's technical community with the government, academia, customers and business partners. Dr Mohan is an IBM veteran and holds 34 patents to his credit. Dr Mohan was, till recently, at IBM's Almaden Research Center in San Jose, California where he worked on database and related topics. He has a rich experience and understanding of IBM, profound expertise in his field, and a strong vision for the country.


Akshay Adhalrao new MD, Dynalog India

Dynalog India Ltd. has appointed Akshay Adhalrao as the managing director of the company. The position was earlier held by his father Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil, a member of parliament. He has big plans for Dynalog India with respect to the automation and hardware industry. A management graduate from the Fisher College of Business, Ohio State University, he plans to consolidate the holding by entering in newer growth avenues such as embedded systems and industrial networking and communication.

Management change in LG Elec
* Nam Yong, former Vice-Chairman of LG and CEO of LG Telecom is going to be LG Electronic's new CEO and Vice-Chairman. Nam will take over the charge from Kim Ssang-su, who had headed the country's top home appliance maker since 2003.

* LG Electronics has promoted James Jeong, former head of corporate finance at the company, to replace Chief Financial Officer Kwon Young-soo.

* LG has appointed Skott Ahn and Simon Kang as the new heads of its mobile communications and display businesses, respectively.

* KR Kim to head A-Pac operations of LG
LG Electronics India (LGEIL) Managing Director KR Kim, credited with the success of the India operations of the Korean chaebol is moving to Bangkok to head the Asia-Pacific region business. LG India Deputy MD, Moon B Shin has succeeded him from January 1, 2007 and will report directly to Korea. Recently, Kim, regarded as one of the top five executives of the Korean chaebol's electronics arm, was assigned with the additional charge of South East Asia and Australia. He was then also made responsible for operations in Asia and Australia except Japan, Taiwan and China. Kim who joined the Korean chaebol in 1997 as MD and since then played a significant role in establishing the company's numero uno position in the durables market. He has been at the forefront of LG's positioning as a brand with competitive pricing, focus on technology, aggressive sales and marketing and an enviable distribution network, which led to the growth of the brand in the past decade.

John Mack gets record $40 mn bonus
Morgan Stanley CEO, John Mack has received the biggest bonus for the head of a Wall Street firm. Under his leadership, the company has headed for the best profit in its 71-year history, for which he is awarded with $ 40 million from the company. Mack has received shares valued at $ 36.2 million as of December 12, and about $ 4 million in options to buy Morgan Stanley shares. The firm also granted more than $ 57 million in bonuses for seven other top executives.

Pantaloon Retail to launch Yatra restaurants
Pantaloon Retail India (part of Kishore Biyani's The Future group) is launching a budget chain of thali-style restaurants called Yatra by the end of this fiscal. Offering cuisine from across India and the world, the first of these restaurants will open in Mumbai soon. The second restaurant will be opened in Ahmedabad. The company plans to roll out the chain across the country eventually.

Air compressor by Elgi

Elgi has extended its range of compressors with the recent launch of the E45 trolley-mounted, oil-injected, electric-powered screw air compressor, widely used in the construction, quarrying, plant-hire and general industry segments. A three-phase, TEFC squirrel-cage motor with 'F' class insulation powers the single-axle compact and portable machine. It features an integrated electric-driven motor, resulting in increased motor performance, reduced power consumption and lower maintenance costs. The low-emission E45 is suited for applications near urban areas where electric power is readily available and environmental impact is a concern. Low operating costs ensure high return on investment. It has a free air delivery range of 294 cfm at a working pressure of 7-bar g. Its high motor efficiency ensures quiet operation and high reliability and durability required for operating rock drills, chipping hammers, breakers, and pneumatic pumps and for surface finish applications like sand blasting

Mahindra-Renault to launch Logan

Mahindra-Renault, a 51:49 joint venture between Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) and French carmaker Renault, is planning to launch the mid-sized sedan car, Logan in February. Mahindra- Renault has set up its Logan car plant adjacent to M&M's state-ofthe- art manufacturing facility at Nashik. The total investment in the project is around Rs 6 billion and commercial operations have already started. Almost half of the parts of Logan will come from Europe, while it will source the rest from 35 vendors across India, including 10 vendors from Nashik. Lear Corporation, JBM Auto, Sharda Motors and Reliable Group are among the major vendors of Mahindra-Renault.

Asian Paints launches Kahaani Har Ghar Kii
Asian Paints, market leader in paints in India, has unveiled the TV Serial Shade Book called "Kahaani Har Ghar Kii". It is a unique collection of extra deep, rich, vibrant shade combinations to bedeck Indian homes. The collection is mainly inspired by three famous soap operas of Stat Plus - Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki, Kasautii Zindagii Kay and Shararat.

Sakshi Tanwar, popularly known as Paarvati Bhaabi of the Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki, has launched the book. Sakshi believes that the Asian Paints interior emulsion shades make the atmosphere at sets energetic, alive and cheerful. This shade book has been conceptualised in order to meet the needs of décor conscious consumers across metros and smaller towns, who experiment with urban trends. The book provides inspiration to customers to choose from a collection of unique shade combinations. This collection showcases the concept of a 'Feature Wall', which is a single wall (in a room) painted in an Extra Deep Shade that is highlighted with the use of a complimentary or contrasting colour on the rest of the walls. Swiss India has launched Swiss Concrete/Asphalt Cutter. This Swiss groove-cutting machine is ideal equipment for cutting the hard concrete for expansion joints. The machine has dummy joints (Shrinkage Control Joints), asphalt pavement cut and pot hole repair cut. The machine is easy to operator and can be handled easily because of its lightweight. The machine gives accurate repair depth cuts, if control mechanism is fitted in the machine. The machine has water spray attachment, powered by electric motor. Water pump optionally required as party.

Hitech Engineers & Consultants (India) has introduced Biegemaster, developed by Sperr & Lechner. Hitech are exclusive distributors in India for the Biegemaster, folding machine. Made in Germany, the machine is designed for producing all profiles for wall and roof such as gutters, copings, flashings, etc. Biegemaster, long folding machines are available from 3-12 meters working length and material thickness from 1 mm up to 3 mm for steel and proven in both craft and industrial fields.
